Bodyguard is a political thriller set in the United Kingdom, centered on David Budd, a highly trained war veteran working as a protection officer. After stopping a potential attack on a train, he is assigned to protect a senior government minister whose political views he does not fully support. As he takes on the role, he becomes caught between his duty to protect and his own personal beliefs.

The series builds tension through its focus on security threats, government pressure, and the psychological strain of the job. Its tone is intense and tightly controlled, with a steady sense of urgency as situations escalate. Alongside the external dangers, the story explores Budd’s internal struggles and the impact of his past experiences. By combining political drama with personal conflict, the show keeps its focus on trust, responsibility, and the cost of staying in control under pressure.

I found Bodyguard to be an incredibly high-tension political thriller that hooks you from its opening minutes. The series follows a war veteran working in specialized protection, and I was particularly struck by how it balances intense, blockbuster-scale action sequences with a very grounded and sensitive look at PTSD. It is a show that thrives on unpredictability, constantly challenging your assumptions about who to trust while maintaining a relentless, driving pace that makes it very hard to look away.

What sets this apart for me is the central performance, which perfectly captures the friction between professional duty and personal trauma. The way the narrative weaves together internal police politics, government conspiracies, and personal struggles feels remarkably tight, especially given its short run. While there are moments where the plot pushes the boundaries of realism, the emotional stakes are so high that I remained completely invested. It is an exhilarating, well-crafted ride that I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys smart, edge-of-your-seat drama.
